When going from a dimly lit area to a brightly lit area, typically you would need to adjust your aperture to prevent your blacks from clipping or your whites from blowing out. This is what we are used to with traditional video cameras. However, this test demonstrates the amazingly high dynamic range the RED Epic HDRx sensor has.
For this test, fxguide went from a dark tunnel to bright daylight without adjusting the aperture of the lens. รย With most cameras, this footage would be unusable, but with RED’s HDRx sensor, there was plenty of data to work with in post. รย After adjusting levels in post, the result is a perfectly exposed image.
